Contractor Licensing Requirements

Pursuant to Florida State Statute 489 and Collier County Ordinance 2006-46, any person, firm, partnership, corporation or other legal entity who engages in any construction contracting business, or advertises or represents himself/herself as such, must have a county contractor license/certificate of competency or be a state-certified contractor. Contracting without proper licensing is unlawful.

Update: Specialty Contractor Licenses No Longer Required effective July 1, 2025 - *Pursuant to Senate Bill 1142 and Florida Statute 489 (Specifically 489.113 and 489.117) the following specialty contractor licenses are no longer required in Collier County:

  • Acoustical.
  • Cabinet.
  • Decorative Metal.
  • Dredging.
  • Epoxy.
  • Excavation.
  • Exterior Covering by Artificial Stucco System.
  • Floor Covering.
  • Insulation.
  • Landscape.
  • Nonelectrical Sign.
  • Nonrecreational Pond Waterfall Fountain.
  • Painting.
  • Paving Block.
  • Paving Commercial.
  • Pollutant Storage Contractor.
  • Reinforced Steel.
  • Sandblasting.
  • Satellite Dish.
  • Sealing and Striping.
  • Swimming pool cleaning.
  • Tile, marble, and Terrazzo.
  • Tree trimming/removal.

Important: Even though the above specialty licenses are no longer required, you may still be required to hold appropriate licensing depending on the scope of work or broader contracting activities.
